Is this you?

How many of these sound like you?

  • You stretch most days, and you still wake up stiff.
  • Foam rolling helps for an hour. Then the tightness is back.
  • A massage or bodywork session feels great. A few days later, the old pattern returns.
  • People tell you to "release your fascia." Nobody has told you what that really means.
  • You feel braced and stiff when you move fast, lift or turn.
  • You practise qigong, tai chi or yoga, and you want to know what it does to your connective tissue.

If even one of these is you, you are not doing it wrong. You may be working from the wrong idea.

The popular idea is that fascia gets stuck and needs to be released. Isaac teaches a different one: fascia adapts to the forces you give it, day after day.

So the useful question is: what are you training it to do? In this class, Isaac shows how he moves his clients from holding a position, to moving through range, to elastic, flowing movement, and where Daoist medical qigong fits on that path.

One honest note: research has not measured a specific fascia response to qigong. Isaac tells you what is known, what is not, and how he uses qigong in his own work.

What you will learn

Isaac works with fascia as a Rolfer, a personal trainer and a qigong teacher. In this class he brings the three together.

  1. Release or adapt? Why Isaac says fascia adapts rather than releases, and what that changes about how you stretch, train and get bodywork.
  2. Hold, move, flowThe three stages Isaac uses with his clients: holding a position, moving through range, then elastic, flowing movement.
  3. Where qigong fitsHow Isaac uses slow, connected qigong movement to explore how your body receives, organizes and passes on force.
  4. What the research says, and what it does notWhat has been measured, what has not, and how to spot a claim that goes further than the evidence.

Practise it live, in your own body

Isaac takes you through hold, move and flow, standing or sitting. You feel the difference between the three stages for yourself. Every step has an easier version.

Your questions, answered by a Rolfer

Who is behind this

About White Tiger Qigong

White Tiger Qigong was founded by Tevia Feng, who has studied qigong for over 40 years. Since 2008, more than 70,000 students in over 80 countries have learned with us.

We teach every movement three ways: Chinese medicine, sports science and neuroscience. So you learn what a movement does in Chinese medicine, what it does to your fascia and joints, and what it does to your nervous system.

Isaac Osborne, who teaches this class, is a Certified White Tiger Qigong Instructor. In February he teaches two sessions at our Eleven Pieces of Brocade training in Vietnam.

Isaac Osborne

LMT, CPT · Certified Advanced Rolfer® · Certified White Tiger Qigong Instructor

Isaac is a licensed massage therapist, a certified personal trainer and a Certified Advanced Rolfer, based in Santa Barbara, California. His work brings together structural integration, corrective exercise, and breath and movement education.

He trains and teaches in the White Tiger Qigong lineage of Daoist medical qigong.

His lecture for the International Fascia Symposium 2026, The Recovery Window: How Fluid Movement Drives Tendon Adaptation, looks at how tendons adapt to load and to the recovery after it. It is careful to claim no more than the evidence supports. So is this class.

You will leave with:

  • The hold, move, flow path, to use in your own practice.
  • A clearer way to think about stiffness, stretching and bodywork.
  • A simple movement practice you can do on your own.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Near the end, our host will tell you about our February Ba Duan Jin training in Vietnam, where Isaac teaches two sessions, and our online workshop. You do not have to buy anything.

Do I need any experience?

No. Every part of the class has an easier version, and you can follow along standing or sitting.

I'm a bodyworker or movement teacher. Is this for me?

Yes. Isaac speaks as a Rolfer and a personal trainer, and he welcomes questions from practitioners.

What do I need?

A phone, tablet or computer with Zoom. Clothes you can move in. Enough space to stand comfortably.

Will there be a replay?

Yes, until Friday, December 11, at 11:59 PM ET. Come live if you can, so you can ask your questions.

Is it safe if I have pain or an injury?

Check with your doctor before you start any new exercise. If your pain is new, sharp or severe, see a doctor first. In class, move slowly, stay in a range that feels comfortable, and sit down if you need to.

Your body adapts to what you give it. Give it one hour.
